Mikko Rantanen's ninth career hat trick propelled the Colorado Avalanche to a 4-2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night.
Rantanen scored all three of his goals in the second period, giving the Avalanche a 3-0 lead.
Kings Rally Falls Short
The Kings rallied in the third period with goals from Trevor Moore and Viktor Arvidsson, but it wasn't enough to overcome Rantanen's heroics.
Philipp Grubauer made 30 saves for the Avalanche, while Cal Petersen stopped 26 shots for the Kings.
Avalanche Extend Point Streak
With the win, the Avalanche extended their point streak to five games (4-0-1).
They remain atop the NHL standings with a record of 30-8-3.
Kings Slide Continues
The Kings have now lost three straight games and are 22-16-6 on the season.
They are fifth in the Pacific Division, seven points behind the Vegas Golden Knights.
