Oklahoma quarterback Dillon Gabriel threw for 403 yards and a career-high five touchdowns, leading the Sooners to a 52-21 rout of Virginia on Saturday in Norman.
The Sooners (3-0) won their third straight game to open the season, while Virginia (2-1) suffered its first loss.
Martell’s Emergence Brings Excitement to Offense
Gabriel's performance was complemented by running back Eric Gray, who rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown, and wide receiver Marvin Mims, who caught six passes for 136 yards and a score.
Another notable performance came from freshman receiver Jayden Gibson, who caught two touchdowns, including a 63-yarder in the first quarter. Gibson's emergence brings added depth and excitement to the Sooners' offensive attack.
Virginia’s Struggles Continue on the Road
For Virginia, the loss highlighted their struggles on the road, where they are now 0-3 under coach Tony Elliott.
Quarterback Brennan Armstrong threw for 222 yards but also had two interceptions. The Cavaliers' running game was limited to just 63 yards on 22 carries.
Defense Dominates for Oklahoma
Oklahoma's defense also played a significant role in the victory, holding Virginia to just 326 yards of total offense and forcing three turnovers.
Linebacker Danny Stutsman led the Sooners with 10 tackles, while defensive end Ethan Downs recorded two sacks and a forced fumble.
Sooners Look Ahead to Nebraska
With the win, Oklahoma remains undefeated and will host Nebraska (2-1) next Saturday in Lincoln.
The Sooners will look to continue their momentum against a Nebraska team that is coming off a 49-14 loss to Georgia Southern.
