Bonnies Head To Florida Gulf Coast For Wednesday Night Matchup
St. Bonaventure men to open 2023-24 season against the Eagles
Bonnies Riding 7-Game Winning Streak
The St. Bonaventure men's basketball team will open the 2023-24 season on Wednesday, Nov. 9, when it travels to Fort Myers, Fla., to take on Florida Gulf Coast University at Alico Arena. The game is set to tip off at 7 p.m. and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
The Bonnies are coming off a successful 2022-23 campaign in which they finished 20-8 overall and 12-6 in the Atlantic 10 Conference. They advanced to the semifinals of the A-10 Tournament before falling to eventual champion Davidson.
St. Bonaventure returns four starters from last year's team, including All-Atlantic 10 First Team selection Kyle Lofton. Lofton averaged 14.4 points, 6.1 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game last season.
The Bonnies also welcome a talented group of newcomers, including 6-foot-11 center Osun Osunniyi. Osunniyi was a two-time All-Big 12 selection at Texas Tech and is expected to make an immediate impact in the paint for St. Bonaventure.
Florida Gulf Coast finished 18-13 overall and 9-9 in the Atlantic Sun Conference last season. The Eagles lost in the quarterfinals of the ASUN Tournament to eventual champion Liberty.
FGCU is led by 6-foot-8 forward Caleb Catto. Catto averaged 14.6 points and 6.2 rebounds per game last season.
The Bonnies are 3-0 all-time against Florida Gulf Coast. The two teams last met in the 2019-20 season, with St. Bonaventure winning 76-64.
