Mississippi State Football Rolls Past Alcorn State

Bulldogs Show Offensive Prowess, Defensive Dominance

STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Mississippi State Bulldogs (2-0) continued their strong start to the 2023 season with a convincing 55-10 victory over the Alcorn State Braves (0-2) on Saturday at Davis Wade Stadium.

The Bulldogs, led by head coach Mike Leach, displayed a balanced offensive attack that kept the Braves defense on their heels throughout the game. Senior quarterback Will Rogers threw for 402 yards and four touchdowns, while the running game contributed 206 yards and two touchdowns, led by freshman running back Dillon Johnson's 119 yards and one touchdown.

On the defensive side, the Bulldogs were equally impressive, holding the Braves to just 10 points and forcing three turnovers. Sophomore safety Jiorah Modica led the way with two interceptions, while senior linebacker Nathaniel Watson added eight tackles and a forced fumble.

The victory marks the Bulldogs' second consecutive win of the season, following their season-opening triumph over the Memphis Tigers. Mississippi State is now 23-2 in non-conference home games under Leach and has won 10 of its last 11 home games overall.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Saturday, September 17, when they host the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (1-1) in a non-conference matchup at Davis Wade Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
