Capitals vs. Maple Leafs Game Thread 11/13
Puck Drop
The Washington Capitals host the Toronto Maple Leafs at Capital One Arena tonight at 7 p.m. The Capitals are coming off a 4-3 win over the New York Islanders in their home opener on Monday. The Maple Leafs are coming off a 6-4 win over the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday.
Capitals’ Lineup
The Capitals have made one lineup change from Monday's game, with Trevor van Riemsdyk replacing Nick Jensen on the third defense pairing. The rest of the lineup remains the same.
Maple Leafs’ Lineup
The Maple Leafs have made two lineup changes from Tuesday's game, with Calle Jarnkrok replacing Michael Bunting on the wing with Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner, and Joey Anderson replacing Kyle Clifford on the fourth line. The rest of the lineup remains the same.
First Period
The Caps came out of the gate flying, leading to an early power play after David Kämpf was called for interference. The Capitals couldn’t covert, but they continued to carry the play for much of the rest of the period.
Second Period
The Maple Leafs came out of the gate flying and finally broke the 0-0 tie just 4:28 into the second period when Mitch Marner scored a power play goal. The Caps came right back about seven minutes later when Anthony Mantha scored a goal that was assisted by John Carlson.
Third Period
The Leafs did not want to be outdone and responded right back in the third period with a goal from Calle Jarnkrok, assisted by Auston Matthews. But the Caps battled back again, this time tying it up on a goal by Conor Sheary. Shea Theodore is serving a four-game suspension for a hit on Maple Leafs forward William Nylander during the first period of last night's game.
Overtime
A back-and-forth game continued into overtime, and Alex Ovechkin scored just 27 seconds into the extra frame to win it for the Caps.
