The Gospel of the Day: Matthew 25:1-13
In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus tells the parable of the ten virgins. Ten virgins were invited to a wedding feast, and they were each given a lamp to light their way. Five of the virgins were wise, and they brought extra oil for their lamps. The other five virgins were foolish, and they did not bring any extra oil.
When the bridegroom arrived, the wise virgins were able to light their lamps and enter the wedding feast. The foolish virgins, however, did not have any oil for their lamps, and they were not able to enter the feast.
Jesus told this parable to teach us the importance of being prepared for his return. We do not know when Jesus will come back, but we need to be ready for him. We need to have our lamps lit, and we need to be filled with the oil of the Holy Spirit.
