Dave Coulier of 'Full House' Reveals Cancer Diagnosis
Comedian and actor known for his role as Joey Gladstone opens up about his health journey
Coulier shares his story to raise awareness and encourage others to get regular checkups
Dave Coulier, best known for his role as Joey Gladstone on the beloved sitcom "Full House," has revealed that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer in September 2022.
In an exclusive interview with People magazine, Coulier, 65, shared his story to raise awareness about the importance of regular checkups and early detection.
"I'm sharing my story because I want other men to know that they're not alone," Coulier said. "Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men, and it's important to get checked regularly."
Coulier said he had no symptoms when he went for his annual checkup, but his doctor recommended a biopsy after finding an elevated PSA level.
The biopsy confirmed the diagnosis, and Coulier underwent surgery to remove the cancerous tissue in October 2022.
Coulier said the surgery was successful, and he is now cancer-free.
"I'm so grateful that I caught it early," Coulier said. "I want to encourage other men to get regular checkups, because early detection can save lives."
Coulier's story has resonated with many people, including his former "Full House" co-stars.
"Dave is a fighter," said John Stamos, who played Uncle Jesse on the show. "He's going to beat this."
"I'm so proud of Dave for sharing his story," said Candace Cameron Bure, who played D.J. Tanner on the show. "He's an inspiration to us all."
Coulier's diagnosis is a reminder that prostate cancer can affect anyone, regardless of age or lifestyle.
The American Cancer Society recommends that men over the age of 50 get a PSA test every year to screen for prostate cancer.
If you are concerned about your risk of prostate cancer, talk to your doctor about getting a PSA test.
