Dave Coulier Thought He Had 'a Little Bit of a Head Cold' Before 'Overwhelming' Cancer Diagnosis
Full House star opens up about his health battle in candid interview
'It was like getting hit by a truck,' says actor
Dave Coulier, best known for his role as Joey Gladstone on the sitcom Full House, has revealed that he was diagnosed with cancer last year. In a candid interview with PEOPLE, the 63-year-old actor opened up about his health battle, saying that he initially thought he had "a little bit of a head cold" before receiving the "overwhelming" diagnosis.
Coulier said that his symptoms began in September 2022, when he started to feel tired and run down. He also had a persistent cough and sore throat. At first, he thought he was just coming down with a cold, but when his symptoms didn't improve after a few weeks, he decided to see a doctor.
After undergoing a series of tests, Coulier was diagnosed with stage 4 non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a type of cancer that starts in the lymph nodes. The diagnosis was a shock to Coulier, who said he had always been healthy and active.
"It was like getting hit by a truck," he said. "I just couldn't believe it. I thought I was invincible."
Coulier began chemotherapy treatments shortly after his diagnosis. He said that the treatments were tough, but he was determined to fight the cancer.
"I have a lot of living left to do," he said. "I'm not going to let cancer take me down."
Coulier said that he is now in remission and is feeling much better. He is grateful for the support of his family and friends, and he is looking forward to getting back to work.
"I'm so lucky to be alive," he said. "I'm going to make the most of every day."
