Emotional Katie Taylor hails mother Bridget as she gives update on Croke Park dream ahead of Texas fight
Katie Taylor has hailed her mother Bridget as her "biggest supporter" as she gave an update on her Croke Park dream ahead of her Texas fight.
The Bray boxer is set to face Amanda Serrano in a rematch of their Madison Square Garden classic on May 20th in Dublin's Croke Park.
It will be the first time Taylor has fought in Ireland since December 2018, and she is hoping to make it a night to remember.
Taylor, 36, is unbeaten in 21 professional fights and is widely regarded as the greatest female boxer of all time.
She won an Olympic gold medal in 2012 and has held multiple world titles at lightweight and welterweight.
Serrano, 34, is a seven-weight world champion and is considered one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world.
The pair fought to a split decision draw in their first fight in April 2022, and Taylor is confident she can get the win this time around.
"I'm really excited to be fighting in Croke Park," Taylor said.
"It's going to be a special night, and I'm going to do everything I can to make sure I win."
Taylor also paid tribute to her mother, Bridget, who has been her biggest supporter throughout her career.
"My mother has always been there for me," Taylor said.
"She's my biggest supporter, and I wouldn't be where I am today without her."
Taylor is hoping to make history by becoming the first woman to headline a fight at Croke Park.
The stadium has a capacity of over 82,000, and Taylor is expecting a sell-out crowd.
"It would be a dream come true to fight in front of a sell-out crowd at Croke Park," Taylor said.
"It would be a special moment for me, and for Irish boxing."
