Firefighters Battling a Massive Fire at a Commercial Building on Ruth Street in Philadelphia's Port Richmond Section
Witnesses Report a Quickly Spreading Fire
According to witnesses, the fire started on the first floor of a commercial building on Ruth Street in Port Richmond around 2:30 p.m. and spread quickly, engulfing the entire building within minutes. The fire was so intense that it started to spread to a nearby vacant building as well.
Firefighters on the Scene
Firefighters arrived on the scene and evacuated nearby residents and businesses due to the heavy smoke and intense heat creating dangerous conditions. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it is believed to have originated on the first floor commercial space.
No Injuries Reported
Thankfully, there have been no reports of any injuries, either to civilians or firefighters. The damage to the building is extensive, and the fire is still under control. Numerous fire companies were dispatched to the scene, and they are expected to remain on the scene for several hours.
Avoid the Area
Officials are asking people to avoid the area as firefighters battle the blaze. Ruth Street is closed between Westmoreland Street and Cambria Street. Allegheny Avenue is closed to all traffic from Aramingo Avenue to Westmoreland Street.
Power Outages
Due to the fire, there are power outages in the immediate area. PECO crews are on the scene working to restore power as quickly as possible.
