GM to Recall More Than 461,000 Vehicles Over Transmission Issues
General Motors to Recall Over 461k Vehicles
General Motors is recalling more than 461,000 vehicles in the United States over transmission issues, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The recall affects certain 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 pickup trucks, as well as some 2014-2017 Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon SUVs.
Transmission May Slip Out of Park
The NHTSA says the recall is due to a problem with the transmission shift cable, which may not properly engage the transmission into the park position. This could allow the vehicle to roll away unexpectedly, even if the driver has placed it in park.
GM is advising owners of the affected vehicles to park their cars in a safe location and contact their local GM dealer to schedule a free repair. The dealer will inspect the transmission shift cable and replace it if necessary.
GM Recalls Over 400k Vehicles for Potential Door Latch Issue
In a separate recall, GM is also recalling more than 400,000 vehicles over a potential door latch issue. The recall affects certain 2014-2017 Cadillac Escalade and Chevrolet Suburban SUVs, as well as some 2015-2017 GMC Yukon SUVs.
The NHTSA says the recall is due to a problem with the door latch pawl, which may not properly engage the door latch. This could allow the door to open unexpectedly while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of a crash.
GM is advising owners of the affected vehicles to contact their local GM dealer to schedule a free repair. The dealer will inspect the door latches and replace them if necessary.
