IDLE HANDS Remake In The Works At Sony Pictures
Exclusive: Logan Thomas to pen script for the new horror comedy
The original 1999 film starred Devon Sawa, Seth Green, Elden Henson, Jessica Alba, and Vivica A. Fox
Sony Pictures is developing a remake of the 1999 horror comedy Idle Hands, with Logan Thomas (The Babysitter: Killer Queen) penning the script, Deadline has exclusively learned.
The original film starred Devon Sawa, Seth Green, Elden Henson, Jessica Alba, and Vivica A. Fox. It was directed by Rodman Flender from a script by Terri Hughes and Ron Milbauer.
The pic follows slacker teenager Anton Tobias (Sawa), whose right hand becomes possessed by a demonic force and goes on a murderous rampage. His friends must find a way to stop the hand before it kills him or anyone else.
The remake is being produced by Original Film’s Neal Moritz and Pavun Shetty.
Thomas most recently wrote the script for the upcoming horror comedy The Babysitter: Killer Queen, which is set to be released on Netflix later this year.
He is also attached to write the script for the upcoming horror film The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, which is set to be released in 2021.
The original Idle Hands was a critical and commercial failure, but it has since gained a cult following. The film is known for its dark humor, over-the-top gore, and memorable performances from its cast.
It will be interesting to see what Thomas does with the material. He has a knack for writing horror comedies, so he could very well deliver a remake that is both faithful to the original and fresh.
