Jenkins Scores 18 Points, Pirates Fall to Hofstra in Icons of the Game Matchup

East Carolina's Jenkins Scores 18 Points in Loss to Hofstra in Icons of the Game Matchup

ECU sophomore guard Tristen Jenkins led the Pirates with 18 points on Saturday afternoon at Minges Coliseum, but it wasn't enough as Hofstra held off a late ECU rally to earn a 71-64 victory in the inaugural Icons of the Game matchup.

Jenkins' Strong Performance Not Enough for Pirates

Jenkins, who hails from nearby Goldsboro, N.C., shot 7-of-13 from the field and 3-of-7 from three-point range. He also added four rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

Despite Jenkins' strong performance, the Pirates (3-4) couldn't overcome a slow start and a cold shooting night from the field. ECU shot just 38.2% from the field and 28.6% from three-point range.

Hofstra Takes Control Early

Hofstra (4-3) took control of the game early, building a 10-point lead in the first half. The Pride shot 50% from the field in the opening half and held ECU to just 33.3% shooting.

The Pirates rallied in the second half, cutting the deficit to three points with just over two minutes remaining. However, Hofstra made its free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.

Other Notable Performances

In addition to Jenkins, ECU was led by senior forward Jayden Gardner, who scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Sophomore guard Ezra Ausar added 10 points and six rebounds.

For Hofstra, Aaron Estrada led the way with 17 points, while Tyler Thomas added 16 points and eight rebounds.
