Men's Basketball's Hinton Earns Ivy League Rookie of the Week
Ivy League Honors For Hinton
After a great performance last week, Columbia Men's Basketball's Geronimo Hinton has been named Ivy League Rookie of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
In two games last week, Hinton averaged 15.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game while shooting 56.3% from the field. The guard helped the Lions open the season with a 1-1 record.
Hinton had his first career double-double with a 20-point, 10-rebound performance in the season opener against Bryant College at Levien Gymnasium on Tuesday. Two days later, he scored 11 points and grabbed four rebounds against Central Connecticut State University. He also had four assists in the win over Central Connecticut State.
Hinton is the first Columbia player to earn Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors since January 28, 2019, when Gabe Stefanini won the award.
Hinton's Season So Far
Hinton has been a key player for the Lions this season since his first Ivy League Rookie of the Week award. The guard is averaging 14.8 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game. He has also shot 51.0% from the field.
Hinton has helped the Lions to a 3-2 record this season. Columbia is currently in fourth place in the Ivy League standings with a 1-1 record in conference play.
Hinton and the Lions will return to action on Saturday, December 3, when they travel to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to face the University of Pennsylvania at the Palestra. The game is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. ET.
