Police Arrest Man Following Pursuit in Northwest Charlotte
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officers arrested a man following a pursuit in northwest Charlotte early Sunday morning.
Officers attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation around 12:30 a.m. near the intersection of Beatties Ford Road and Old Statesville Road. The driver, identified as 23-year-old Antwan Lamont Simpson, did not stop and led officers on a pursuit.
The pursuit continued for several minutes, reaching speeds of up to 90 mph. Simpson eventually crashed the vehicle into a fence near the intersection of Tuckaseegee Road and Old Statesville Road.
Simpson was taken into custody without incident. He was charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest, driving while impaired, and possession of marijuana.
No injuries were reported during the pursuit or crash.
Simpson has a lengthy criminal history, including multiple convictions for driving while impaired. He is currently being held in the Mecklenburg County Jail without bond.
