Minister commends Gilmour Space for progression of launch complex
The permit enables Gilmour Space Technologies to conduct launch operations from Bowen, Queensland, Australia
The Hon. Keith Pitt MP, Minister for Resources and Water and Member for Hinkler, today welcomed the grant of a launch permit to Gilmour Space Technologies (Gilmour Space).
This permit will allow Gilmour Space to conduct launch operations from the Bowen Orbital Space Launch Complex, near Bowen in Queensland.
“This is a significant milestone for Gilmour Space and for Australia’s space sector,” Minister Pitt said.
“This permit will enable Gilmour Space to commence launch operations from Australian soil, which will provide a major boost to our nation’s space capabilities.”
Gilmour Space is a private company that is developing a low-cost, reusable launch vehicle capable of launching small satellites into orbit.
The company’s Eris rocket is designed to be launched from the Bowen Orbital Space Launch Complex, which is currently under construction.
“The grant of this launch permit is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the Gilmour Space team,” Minister Pitt said.
“I commend Gilmour Space for their commitment to innovation and for their belief in Australia’s potential as a spacefaring nation.”
“The Australian Government is committed to supporting the growth of our space sector and we are working to create an environment that encourages investment and innovation,” Minister Pitt said.
“The grant of this launch permit is a clear demonstration of our commitment to this sector.”
The launch permit is subject to a number of conditions, including that Gilmour Space must comply with all relevant safety regulations and must obtain all necessary approvals from the Civil Aviation Safety Authority.
Gilmour Space is expected to commence launch operations from the Bowen Orbital Space Launch Complex in 2023.
