TRAFFIC ALERT: AFD responds to ‘hazardous materials incident’ near Tesla Gigafactory

Austin Fire Department crews are on scene of a ‘hazardous materials incident’ near the Tesla Gigafactory, authorities said.

The incident was reported just after 9 a.m. Friday in the 5300 block of Harold Green Road, near Stassney Lane, according to Austin Fire Department Battalion Chief Travis Limerick.

Limerick said there were no injuries reported, but authorities are asking people to avoid the area as they work to clean up the spill.

The type of hazardous material has not been released, but Limerick said it is not a threat to the public.

The cleanup is expected to take several hours, Limerick said.

AFD is asking drivers to avoid the area if possible.
