USC Men's Basketball Continues Home Stand Against UT Arlington on Wednesday
Trojans Look to Extend Win Streak
Los Angeles, Calif. - The USC men's basketball team will continue its home stand on Wednesday, Nov. 30, when it hosts UT Arlington at the Galen Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. PT and the game will be televised on Pac-12 Networks.
The Trojans (4-2) are coming off a 78-71 win over Cal State Fullerton on Saturday. In that game, senior forward Isaiah Mobley led the way with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Junior guard Drew Peterson added 16 points and five rebounds, while senior guard Ethan Anderson chipped in 14 points.
UT Arlington (3-3) is coming off a 77-63 loss to Texas A&M on Friday. In that game, junior guard David Azore led the way with 18 points. Senior forward Kyron Gibson added 16 points and eight rebounds, while junior guard Brandon Williams chipped in 13 points.
The Trojans are 2-0 all-time against UT Arlington. The two teams last met in the 2019-20 season, with USC winning 82-64.
Scouting the Mavericks
UT Arlington is led by head coach Chris Ogden, who is in his second season with the program. Ogden led the Mavericks to a 12-16 record in his first season.
The Mavericks are a young team, with just two seniors on the roster. However, they have a talented group of guards, led by Azore and Williams. Azore is a transfer from Northern Arizona, while Williams is a junior college transfer.
In addition to Azore and Williams, the Mavericks also have a solid frontcourt, led by Gibson and junior forward Kaodirichi Akobundu-Ehiogu. Gibson is a transfer from SMU, while Akobundu-Ehiogu is a transfer from Rice.
Keys to the Game
The key to the game for USC will be to take care of the basketball. The Trojans have turned the ball over an average of 13.7 times per game this season, which is tied for 278th in the country.
The Trojans will also need to get to the free throw line. USC is shooting 74.4% from the free throw line this season, which is 20th in the country.
On the defensive end, the Trojans will need to focus on stopping Azore and Williams. The two guards are averaging a combined 28.8 points per game this season.
Prediction
The Trojans are a slight favorite in this game. They are the more experienced team, and they have a better record. However, the Mavericks are a dangerous team, and they could certainly pull off the upset if the Trojans are not careful.
I predict that the Trojans will win the game, but it will be a close one.
