Milton is a city in Rock County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 5,546 at the 2020 census. Milton is located 15 miles (24 km) south of Madison and 60 miles (97 km) northwest of Milwaukee.

History

Milton was founded in 1836 by Milton M. Edgerton. The city was named after Edgerton's father, Milton M. Edgerton Sr. Milton was incorporated as a village in 1847 and as a city in 1956.

Geography

Milton is located in southeastern Wisconsin, in the Rock River Valley. The city is bordered by the towns of Janesville to the north, Lima to the east, and Johnstown to the south. Milton is also bordered by the city of Edgerton to the west.
