Suspect Faces Charges of Manslaughter
A Whitehorse homeowner has been charged with manslaughter in connection with a house explosion that killed one person in 2023.
The accused, 35-year-old Joshua Thomas, appeared in court on Monday, February 27, 2023, and was charged with one count of manslaughter. He was released on bail with conditions, including that he not return to the property where the explosion occurred.
The explosion happened on January 19, 2023, at a home on the 200 block of Ogilvie Street in Whitehorse. The blast killed Thomas's tenant, 57-year-old Robert Boulanger.
According to court documents, the explosion was caused by a propane leak. Investigators believe the leak was caused by a faulty connection between a propane tank and a stove.
Thomas is scheduled to appear in court again on March 27, 2023.
