Chelsea duo relishing 'more open' UWCL
Sam Kerr and Ann-Katrin Berger are excited about the new format of the Women's Champions League, which they believe will make the competition more exciting and open.
The Blues duo were speaking ahead of their team's opening match of the group stage against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.
The new format sees the competition expanded from 16 to 24 teams, with the group stage now consisting of four groups of six teams. The top two teams from each group will progress to the quarter-finals.
Kerr believes that the new format will make the competition more competitive and unpredictable.
"I think it's going to be a lot more open," she said. "There are going to be a lot more teams in the mix, so it's going to be a lot harder to win."
Berger agrees, and she believes that the new format will give more teams a chance to compete for the title.
"I think it's a good thing," she said. "It gives more teams a chance to qualify for the knockout stages, so it's going to be more exciting for the fans."
Chelsea are one of the favorites to win the Women's Champions League this season, and Kerr and Berger are confident that they can challenge for the title.
"We've got a good team, and we're confident that we can win it," said Kerr.
The Blues will be looking to make a strong start to their campaign when they face Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.
"It's a tough game, but we're ready for it," said Berger.
