Donald Trump is being urged to become U.S. Secretary of Defense
Former President Donald Trump is being urged to become the next U.S. Secretary of Defense by his former Fox News advisor Pete Hegseth.
Hegseth made the suggestion during an appearance on Fox News' "Fox & Friends" on Tuesday, saying that Trump would be "the best person" for the job.
Hegseth said that Trump has the "experience, the leadership skills, and the temperament" to be a successful Secretary of Defense.
He also said that Trump would be a "strong advocate" for the U.S. military and would "protect our country from its enemies."
Trump has not publicly commented on Hegseth's suggestion.
The position of Secretary of Defense is currently held by Lloyd Austin, who was appointed by President Joe Biden.
Austin is a retired four-star general who served as the commander of U.S. Central Command from 2013 to 2016.
He is the first African American to serve as Secretary of Defense.
If Trump were to become Secretary of Defense, he would be the first former president to hold the position.
He would also be the oldest person to ever serve as Secretary of Defense.
Trump is 76 years old.
The oldest person to ever serve as Secretary of Defense was James Mattis, who was 68 years old when he was appointed by President Donald Trump in 2017.
Mattis served as Secretary of Defense until 2019.
