Expectations Sky High For FGCU Men's Basketball Entering 2022-23 Campaign

The FGCU men's basketball team will tip off its 2022-23 season on Wednesday, November 9th, when they host St. Bonaventure at Alico Arena. The Eagles are coming off a successful 2021-22 campaign, in which they finished 22-11 overall and 12-6 in the ASUN Conference. They also advanced to the ASUN Tournament championship game, where they lost to Jacksonville.

Key Returners for FGCU

The Eagles return several key players from last year's team, including leading scorer and ASUN Player of the Year Caleb Catto. Catto averaged 16.1 points per game last season and also led the team in assists (4.2 per game) and steals (1.6 per game).

Other key returners include forward Kevin Samuel, who averaged 10.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game last season, and guard Cyrus Largie, who averaged 9.9 points per game.

Newcomers to Watch

The Eagles also added several newcomers to their roster this offseason, including forward Jaylen McCloud, who transferred from Florida State. McCloud was a four-star recruit coming out of high school and is expected to make an immediate impact for FGCU.

Other newcomers to watch include guard Dakota Rivers, who transferred from Jacksonville, and forward Andre Weir, who was a JUCO All-American last season.

Schedule Outlook

The Eagles have a challenging schedule this season, with games against several Power 5 opponents, including Florida, Florida State, and Miami. They also have a tough conference schedule, with games against Jacksonville, Liberty, and Bellarmine.

Despite the challenging schedule, the Eagles are confident that they can compete for an ASUN Championship this season. They have a talented roster with a good mix of experience and youth, and they are led by a proven winner in coach Michael Fly.
