Forgotten ex-Test star winds back clock with 'insane' haul
Nathan Coulter-Nile shows he still has it with remarkable performance in Sheffield Shield match
Coulter-Nile, 35, takes 8 for 24 to help WA crush Queensland in just two days
Nathan Coulter-Nile produced a stunning performance to help Western Australia crush Queensland in their Sheffield Shield clash at the Gabba on Thursday.
The 35-year-old paceman, who has not played a Test since 2019, took 8 for 24 as Queensland were bowled out for just 59 in their second innings.
It was Coulter-Nile's best performance at Shield level and helped WA to a comprehensive victory by an innings and 11 runs.
Coulter-Nile's heroics came after Queensland had resumed at 2 for 9 on Thursday morning and were looking to build a lead.
But the right-armer struck twice in the first hour, removing both openers to leave Queensland reeling.
He then picked up three more wickets in the middle session as Queensland's batting order crumbled.
Coulter-Nile's performance was all the more remarkable given that he had been playing in the one-day Marsh Cup just two days earlier.
But the veteran showed no signs of fatigue as he ran through Queensland's batting line-up.
Coulter-Nile's performance was praised by WA coach Adam Voges, who said the right-armer was still a "world-class bowler".
"He's got so much experience and he knows how to bowl on these wickets," Voges said.
"He's a great asset to our team and we're lucky to have him."
Coulter-Nile's performance will give him a timely boost ahead of the upcoming Test summer.
The right-armer is hoping to add to his 19 Test caps and play in the Ashes series against England later this year.
On the basis of his performance against Queensland, Coulter-Nile is certainly in contention for a recall to the Test side.
