Zverev & Ruud square off for top spot in Newcombe Group
Becker Group's Zverev loses to Auger-Aliassime
Stefanos Tsitsipas battled for more than three hours to beat Jannik Sinner in the second round of the ATP Finals on Tuesday, setting up a decisive clash with Andrey Rublev to determine who will join Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals from the Red Group.
Daniil Medvedev, who has already qualified for the last four from the Green Group, claimed a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Hubert Hurkacz.
Tsitsipas, who lost to Djokovic in straight sets on Sunday, needed to beat Sinner in straight sets to keep his semi-final hopes alive. The Greek dug deep to win 6-4, 6-7 (4/7), 7-6 (8/6) in three hours and 16 minutes and will now face Rublev, who advanced with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory over Cameron Norrie on Monday.
In the Becker Group, Alexander Zverev missed out on the chance to book his place in the semi-finals after losing 6-3, 7-5 to Felix Auger-Aliassime. The German needed to win in straight sets to guarantee his spot in the last four but was undone by Auger-Aliassime's power and consistency.
Casper Ruud, who beat Auger-Aliassime on Sunday, will now face Zverev in a winner-takes-all clash on Wednesday, with the winner joining Djokovic in the semi-finals.
What's next?
Tsitsipas will face Rublev in the Red Group on Wednesday, while Ruud and Zverev will meet in the Becker Group.
