Giannis Antetokounmpo Upgraded to Doubtful for Game 2 vs. Celtics
Greek Freak left Game 1 with right shoulder sprain
MRI confirmed severity of injury
Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo is now listed as doubtful for Game 2 of the Eastern Conference semifinals against the Boston Celtics, the team announced Monday.
Antetokounmpo left Game 1 with a right shoulder sprain after colliding with Celtics forward Jayson Tatum in the first quarter. He did not return to the game, and the Bucks went on to lose 101-89.
An MRI confirmed the severity of the injury, and Antetokounmpo is now considered day-to-day. He is expected to miss Game 2 on Tuesday, and his status for Game 3 on Thursday is uncertain.
The Bucks are already without Khris Middleton, who is out for the playoffs with a torn MCL. Antetokounmpo's absence would be a major blow to their chances of advancing to the Eastern Conference finals.
In Antetokounmpo's absence, the Bucks will need other players to step up. Jrue Holiday and Bobby Portis will need to carry the scoring load, and Brook Lopez will need to be a force on the defensive end.
The Celtics will be looking to take advantage of Antetokounmpo's absence. They will need to play physical and aggressive defense, and they will need to make the Bucks work for every basket.
Game 2 is scheduled for Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. ET on TNT.
