Jaxson Hayes Out One to Two Weeks with Left Ankle Sprain
New Orleans Pelicans Center Suffers Injury in Win Over Los Angeles Lakers
Pelicans Announce Timeline for Hayes' Return
The New Orleans Pelicans have announced that center Jaxson Hayes will miss the next one to two weeks with a left ankle sprain. The injury occurred during the Pelicans' 123-104 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday night.
Hayes suffered the injury in the third quarter of the game. He was attempting to block a shot when he rolled his ankle. He immediately went down in pain and was helped off the court.
An MRI on Tuesday confirmed the sprain. The Pelicans said Hayes will be re-evaluated in one to two weeks.
The injury is a blow to the Pelicans, who are currently in the midst of a playoff push. Hayes has been a key contributor for the team this season, averaging 9.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.
In Hayes' absence, the Pelicans will likely turn to Willy Hernangomez and Jaxson Hayes to fill his minutes. Hernangomez has been solid in a backup role this season, averaging 7.9 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.
