Karl Smesko is leaving the Atlanta Dream to become the head coach of the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles women's basketball team. Smesko has been the head coach of the Dream for the past five seasons, leading the team to the WNBA playoffs in each of his first three seasons.
Smesko has a successful track record at the college level
Before joining the Dream, Smesko was the head coach at Florida Gulf Coast University for 11 seasons. He led the Eagles to the NCAA Tournament in each of his last six seasons, including a Sweet 16 appearance in 2018. Smesko was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Coach of the Year four times.
