Longtime KNBR host Tom Tolbert out after 28 years

KNBR announced on Tuesday that Tom Tolbert, a 28-year veteran of the station, would be leaving the company.

Tolbert, who hosted the afternoon drive-time show, “Tolbert & Lund,” with Adam Lund, had been with KNBR since 1995. He is also a regular contributor to the San Francisco Chronicle and co-author of the book “The Franchise: The Players, the Game, and the Business of the NFL.”

KNBR did not give a reason for Tolbert’s departure, but he did say that he was “ready for a new challenge.”

“I’ve had an amazing run at KNBR, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to have worked with so many talented people,” Tolbert said in a statement. “I’m excited to see what the future holds.”

Tolbert’s departure is a big loss for KNBR. He was one of the station’s most popular hosts, and his show was a must-listen for many Bay Area sports fans.

It’s not clear yet who will replace Tolbert on the afternoon drive-time show. KNBR has not yet announced any plans to fill the vacancy.
