Nitto ATP Finals: Carlos Alcaraz Stuns Andrey Rublev, Reaches Semifinals
Alcaraz Extends Dominance at Turin with Straight-Sets Victory
Carlos Alcaraz continued his remarkable run at the Nitto ATP Finals on Friday, defeating Andrey Rublev in straight sets to secure his place in the semifinals. The 19-year-old Spaniard dominated the match from start to finish, winning 6-4, 6-2 in just over an hour and a half.
Alcaraz's victory extends his unbeaten streak to 16 matches and further cements his status as the world's top-ranked player. The win also marks his second victory over Rublev in as many weeks, having defeated the Russian in the semifinals of the Paris Masters last month.
Alcaraz's Aggressive Game Overwhelms Rublev
From the outset, Alcaraz took control of the match with his aggressive and relentless style of play. He attacked Rublev's serve with powerful returns and forced the Russian into numerous unforced errors. Alcaraz also displayed his trademark court coverage and defensive abilities, retrieving seemingly impossible shots and hitting winners from all angles.
Alcaraz Breaks Early, Controls First Set
Alcaraz broke Rublev's serve in the second game of the match and held onto his lead throughout the first set. Rublev struggled to find his rhythm and was unable to put any sustained pressure on the Spaniard. Alcaraz closed out the set on his serve, hitting a series of unreturnable forehands.
Alcaraz Dominates Second Set, Secures Victory
The second set followed a similar pattern, with Alcaraz breaking Rublev's serve twice more. Rublev's frustration grew as Alcaraz continued to outplay him, and the Spaniard eventually sealed the match on his second match point.
Alcaraz to Face Ruud in Semifinals
Alcaraz will next face Casper Ruud in the semifinals on Saturday. Ruud defeated Andrey Rublev in the first match of the semifinals and will be looking to avenge his defeat to Alcaraz in the US Open final earlier this year. Alexander Zverev will face Stefanos Tsitsipas in the other semifinal.
