Samson’s maiden ton goes in vain as Proteas clinch series decider in Guwahati

Marco Jansen claimed a four-wicket haul and Aiden Markram struck 49 as South Africa beat India by 16 runs in the second Twenty20 International (T20I) at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Sunday to clinch the three-match series 2-0.
Chasing 228, India were off to a flying start with openers Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul adding 63 runs for the first wicket inside seven overs.
But India lost wickets at regular intervals and were eventually restricted to 211 for 4.
Sanju Samson top-scored for India with an unbeaten 121 off 64 balls, while Pant scored 27, Deepak Chahar scored 31 and Rahul scored 28.
For South Africa, Jansen returned figures of 4 for 35, while Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje took one wicket each.
Earlier, Markram and skipper Temba Bavuma shared an 89-run stand for the second wicket after Quinton de Kock departed cheaply for 5.
Markram struck four fours and two sixes in his 36-ball knock, while Bavuma made 35 off 30 balls.
David Miller then smashed 40 off 23 balls and Tristan Stubbs scored 31 off 20 balls to help South Africa post a challenging total.
For India, Arshdeep Singh took 3 for 32, while Axar Patel and Chahar took one wicket each.
The third and final T20I of the series will be played in Indore on Tuesday.
