Malikah Willis Set to Make Debut for Hawks
The highly-anticipated debut of Malikah Willis for the Saint Joseph's women's basketball team is set to take place on Monday night as the Hawks open their season against VCU at the Siegel Center in Richmond, Va.
Willis, a 6-foot-2 forward, transferred to Saint Joseph's from Maryland after averaging 7.3 points and 4.2 rebounds per game for the Terrapins last season. She is expected to play a major role for the Hawks this season, providing them with a strong inside presence and a scoring threat.
Willis is one of several key players for the Hawks this season. Others include senior guard Talya Brugler, who averaged 12.4 points per game last season, and junior guard Katie Jekot, who averaged 9.8 points and 4.5 assists per game.
Hawks Look to Build on Strong Finish to Last Season
The Hawks finished last season with a 17-12 record, including a 9-7 mark in Atlantic 10 play. They advanced to the semifinals of the A-10 Tournament before losing to eventual champion Dayton.
Saint Joseph's returns all five starters from last season's team, giving them a strong foundation to build on. The Hawks are hoping to make a run at the A-10 title this season and earn a berth in the NCAA Tournament.

VCU will be a tough opponent for the Hawks in their season opener. The Rams finished last season with a 23-8 record, including a 13-3 mark in Atlantic 10 play. They advanced to the quarterfinals of the A-10 Tournament before losing to Saint Joseph's.
VCU returns three starters from last season's team, including All-Atlantic 10 performer Jade Williams. The Rams are expected to be one of the top teams in the A-10 this season.
