On the eve of the All-Star break, two of the most respected veterans on the Spurs roster, Victor Wembanyama and Chris Paul, spoke out to address the elephant in the room: who will replace Gregg Popovich as head coach?

Wembanyama's Confidence in Becky Hammon

Wembanyama, who has played for Popovich for two seasons, expressed his belief that assistant coach Becky Hammon is ready to take over the reins.

"Becky is a phenomenal coach who has paid her dues and knows the game inside and out," Wembanyama said. "She has a great understanding of our system and the players, and I have no doubt that she can lead us to success."

Paul's Endorsement of James Borrego

Paul, who joined the Spurs in a trade last summer, echoed Wembanyama's sentiments but also gave a nod to another assistant coach, James Borrego.

"Both Becky and James are excellent candidates," Paul said. "Becky is a trailblazer, and James has a wealth of experience as a head coach. Either one would be a great choice for this team."

According to sources close to the situation, both Hammon and Borrego are considered to be the frontrunners for the job. Hammon has spent six seasons as an assistant coach with the Spurs, while Borrego was the head coach of the Charlotte Hornets for four seasons.
